I
became attracted to the study of art while attending the University
of Neuchatel in Switzerland. After moving to the United States
in 1969 and enrolling at the University of North Dakota, I began
art education under the guidance of printmaker Ron Schaeffer.
I also studied the techniques of Silversmith under the instruction
of Ellen A. Young.
My art education continued at graduate level a few years later,
at The University of Iowa, under the tutelage of Argentinean
Master Printmaker Mauricio Lasansky and Master Silversmith Chungi
Choo.
Mr.
Lasansky's work and instruction produced an intense impact on
my work, media and style. He encouraged me to look into my own
culture; to the beautiful country of Colombia.
Soon,
South America's mythology and the marvelous natural beauty and
mystery of the region became sources of inspiration for my work.
The works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez also increased my artistic
horizons. The themes, techiniques and media in my work continue
to reflect these wonderful influences.
